Making a badge readable in store lighting
Retail lighting is bright and flat, which sounds helpful and is not. High gloss finishes throw glare straight back at a shopper standing under a track light. A matte or brushed finish reads better in that environment than a mirror finish does.
Contrast beats size. Dark text on a light badge, or light text on a saturated brand color, both work. Mid tone text on a mid tone background does not, no matter how well it matched in the proof on your screen.
