The best name badges, compared honestly
We manufacture all 21 of these products, which means we have no reason to push you toward the expensive one. Here is what each badge is genuinely best at, what it costs, and which one we would specify for your industry.

Six badges, six different jobs
There is no single best badge. There is a best badge for a uniform, an environment and a budget. These six are the ones worth choosing between.

Premium Name Badges
A brushed aluminum face takes a full-color logo without the plasticky look. It scratches slowly and it photographs well, which matters more than people expect.

Standard Plastic Name Badges
Our cheapest badge with a real printed logo. If you hire and lose staff constantly, this is the one you reorder without thinking about it.

Engraved Metal Name Tags
The letters are cut through a two-ply laminate, so there is no ink to fade or rub off. Kitchens, labs and plant floors eat printed badges. Not this one.

Executive Solid Metal Name Badges
Solid metal with a cut edge. You feel the weight the second you pick one up, and that is the entire point for a leadership team.

Chalkboard Name Badges
Write a name, wipe it, write the next one. Seasonal crews and volunteer shifts stop being a badge budget problem.

Magnetic Name Badges
Holds through scrubs, blazers and knitwear without punching a hole in anything. The reason most healthcare orders go magnetic.
Five materials, side by side
Prices below are what we actually charge, single piece first and then the 1,000 piece break. Magnet backing adds about a dollar per badge on any of them.
| Material | 1 badge | In volume | Service life | Best for | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Printed plastic | $8.99 | $6.49 at 1,000+ | 1-2 years | High turnover, big floor counts | View |
| Metal-faced premium | $12.49 | $9.99 at 1,000+ | 3-5 years | Customer-facing staff, brand accuracy | View |
| Solid metal executive | $15.85 | $13.35 at 1,000+ | 5+ years | Leadership, front desk, hospitality | View |
| Engraved laminate | See page | Volume breaks apply | 5+ years, no ink to lose | Kitchens, labs, industrial | View |
| Reusable chalkboard | See page | Volume breaks apply | Reused indefinitely | Seasonal, events, volunteers | View |
Service life assumes daily wear on a uniform. Engraved and chalkboard pricing depends on size and attachment, so those live on the product pages.
What we would specify for your team
Environment decides material, uniform decides attachment, and reading distance decides size. This is the shortcut.

How to judge a name badge
Four things separate a badge people wear from one that ends up in a drawer, and price is not one of them.
- Readability at four to eight feet. The name is always the largest element.
- Attachment that suits the actual uniform, not the catalog photo.
- Material matched to the environment: heat, chemicals, sunlight, laundering.
- Replaceability. How fast and how cheap is badge number 51 for a new hire?
Why factory direct matters to the answer
Many badge sites are resellers. They forward your order to a production floor, add a margin, and add a day or two of handling. We run the machines, so a printed plastic badge starts at $8.99 for one piece and falls to $6.49 each at 1,000. Rush at 1-3 business days is a schedule here, not a favor.
It also changes the advice you get. We make the cheap badge and the expensive one, so there is no incentive to talk you up a tier that will not serve you better.
Best name badge FAQ
What is the best name badge material?
Printed aluminum, for most teams. It holds a full-color logo accurately and it does not read as cheap the way thin plastic can. Go to engraved laminate if the badge lives near heat, water or chemicals. Go to solid brass or steel if the badge is meant to signal seniority.
What size name badge is best?
Use 1.5 by 3 inches when the badge carries a name and a job title. It stays readable from six to eight feet. If it is a name only, 1 by 3 inches is plenty, and that is the size most retail floors use.
Are magnetic or pin badges better?
Magnetic wins on scrubs, blazers and knitwear because nothing gets punctured. Pin wins on heavy outerwear, aprons and anything with a harness, where a magnet cannot pull through the fabric. Anyone with an implanted cardiac device should stay on pin or clip.
How much should a name badge cost?
Our printed plastic badge is $8.99 for a single piece and drops to $6.49 each at 1,000. Metal-faced premium runs $12.49 down to $9.99. Solid metal executive runs $15.85 down to $13.35. Magnet backing adds a dollar. Pay much more than that and you are usually paying a reseller's margin.
What makes a badge readable?
Set the name at 22 to 26pt in a medium or semibold sans-serif and the title at 12 to 14pt underneath. Keep dark text on a light face and leave about 2mm of quiet margin. Then print the proof at actual size and read it from six feet away. That last step catches most layout mistakes.
