Badge reels for staff who scan in all day

A badge reel is the right call when a card gets pulled to a reader several times a shift. Standard reels give about 24 to 34 inches of cord and handle office and clinic use. Heavy duty reels with a reinforced cord are the ones that survive a warehouse or a hospital floor for more than a year.

Where reels fail

Reels die two ways: the cord frays where it exits the housing, and the vinyl strap tears at the slot. Both happen faster with a heavy rigid holder on the end. If your staff carry two cards in a dual holder, buy the heavy duty reel and stop replacing the cheap one every quarter.

Reel, lanyard or clip

Use a reel when the badge has to reach a reader. Use a lanyard when it mostly has to be seen. Use a clip when neither applies and the badge just needs to stay on a pocket. Plenty of hospitals run all three, because roles are different.

Custom printed reel faces

A printed reel face is cheap branding for events and hospital systems, and it makes lost reels findable. Send the same vector logo used on the badge and it gets sized for the round face on the proof.

Common questions

How long is a standard badge reel cord?

Most standard reels extend 24 to 34 inches, which is enough to reach a wall reader without unclipping.

Are heavy duty reels worth it?

If the badge gets pulled more than a few times an hour or carries two cards, yes. Standard reels wear at the cord exit under that load.

Can reels be printed with a logo?

Yes, the round face can be printed. Send vector artwork and it is proofed before production.
