Door plates and office name plates
Door plates come in two useful forms: a fixed engraved plate for a permanent room name, and a holder with a slide in insert for anything that changes. Offices that reorganize should buy holders once and print inserts, since a new plate for every seat change gets expensive quickly.

| Common sizes | 2 x 8, 2 x 10 and 3 x 12 inches |
|---|---|
| Mounting | Adhesive foam tape, screws or a wall holder |
| Finishes | Brushed metal, matte plastic, glossy print |
| Inserts | Slide in paper or plastic for changeable rooms |
| Minimum | One plate |
Fixed or changeable
Room names such as Conference A, Break Room and Records rarely change, so engrave them. People move. Anything with a person's name on it should be a holder with an insert unless the office is very stable.
Mounting on a door without damaging it
Foam tape holds a small plate on a painted or laminate door and comes off with heat and patience. Screws are for corridors where plates get bumped. On glass, use a standoff holder rather than tape, since adhesive is visible from the other side.
Keep the set consistent
One size and one finish across a floor looks intentional. Mixed sizes from three different orders look like three different orders. Note the size and finish in your facilities file so the next purchase matches.

Common questions
What size is a standard door plate?
2 x 8 and 2 x 10 inches cover most office doors. 3 x 12 suits corridors and larger rooms.
Can door plates be changed later?
Use a holder with a slide in insert for anything with a person's name. Engraved plates are permanent by design.
How are they mounted?
Foam adhesive tape, screws, or a wall holder. Glass doors should use a standoff holder.
