ADA braille signs for restrooms, rooms and exits
ADA compliant signs for permanent rooms need raised characters between 5/8 and 2 inches tall, Grade 2 braille below the text, a non glare finish and high contrast between characters and background. Mount them on the latch side of the door at 48 to 60 inches from the floor to the baseline of the lowest tactile character.

Which signs need tactile text and braille
Signs that identify a permanent space need tactile characters and braille: restrooms, room numbers, stairwells, exits. Signs that give directions or temporary information do not, though they still have contrast and font requirements.
The rules that get missed
Three details fail inspections more than any others. Mounting on the hinge side instead of the latch side. Glossy laminate that reflects overhead light. Title case or serif fonts where the standard expects upper case sans serif for tactile characters.
